Valldemossa is a Spanish town and municipality located in the western part of the Island of Mallorca, in the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. It has 2,027 inhabitants.

Its steep and narrow streets offer a special charm. The birthplace of Santa Catalina Tomás is preserved in the town. Also noteworthy is the 13th century Church, which was heavily renovated in the 18th century.

Its main attraction is the Cartuja de Valldemosa and the memory left in it in the winter of 1838-39 by the stay of the romantic couple made up of Chopin and George Sand. Chopin composed his opera 28 Preludes there and Sand wrote “A Winter in Majorca”.

In addition to the illustrious guests who were Chopin and George Sand, personalities of the stature of Rubén Darío, Jorge Luis Borges, Jovellanos, Santiago Rusiñol and many others spent time at the Cartuja. Today renowned painters reside in Valldemosa. 5 km from this town is Miramar, former residence of Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria.
